In an interview with Polygon, the author, Eric Kandel, says his book was the brainchild of his wife, Susan, and her business partner, Steve.
“She had an idea that we could do a book and we’d write a book together,” Kandel says.
“I thought, this is great.
I can use a lot of resources.”
That included working with an audio editing company to turn a video into a podcast, and a scriptwriting company that worked on a feature film.
“We wrote a story with an idea in mind and that idea is the book,” Kaval says.
The book has the subtitle “An Architect’s Journey to Understanding Design,” and it is available for free on Kandel’s website.
“It’s kind of a book that explains design, and the whole thing is an experience,” Kavanas wife says.
But the book’s focus isn’t just on design.
Kandel was inspired by architecture’s history of being used as a means of expression.
“Architecture was a great medium for art and design to get their messages out,” Kail says.
He says that the medium also has a history of telling people what’s wrong with the world, and what to do about it.
“What we’re trying to do with this book is try to make people think about the world in a different way, and it’s really exciting for me,” Kavans wife says, “because we’ve seen architecture change, and we’ve also seen it evolve in ways that we haven’t seen before.”
“It just doesn’t feel right to me anymore” After all the criticism of how the podcast format can make people feel alienated, Kavinsky says, the whole experience has been “really good.”
“The people that love architecture are people that don’t know architecture.
They just like to be on a project, and they like to have a good time.”
Kavas wife, a real estate agent, also believes that she’s helped the podcast’s listeners connect with other people with architecture backgrounds.
“This podcast is a great way for people to meet people and build relationships,” Kavaas wife explains.
“A lot of people think that people don’t understand architecture and it takes time to get people to understand architecture, but the people that are doing it are doing a great job.
It feels like you’re building something.
It doesn’t take much to get someone to appreciate it.”
