The NHL’s most valuable player is tweeting his thanks to a reader of his online store who donated nearly $1.6 million to the family of a friend who was killed in a car accident in 2017.
“Thank you @mike_eichel_5 for the kind words and support over the last 4 months.
Your family is in my thoughts and prayers,” Eichelf wrote in a message on his Twitter account.
The news comes a day after the Dallas Stars posted a video thanking Eicher for his support and thanking Eisfor for his time and dedication.
“Thanks to all of you for your kind words.
I will never forget the good times you had and the good things you shared,” Eis said.
Eichel has donated $834,831 since Nov. 3, 2017, when he signed with the Stars as an undrafted free agent.
Eis said the donation to the Eichers came from a family member who passed away.
The donation came after Eicheds family had to move to the Los Angeles area after the death of Eis for reasons unrelated to his NHL career.
The Eiches said in a statement that the gift was a great way to show their support to their friend’s family.
The Stars have posted several messages on Twitter in recent days thanking fans for their donations.
Stars captain Jamie Benn also said in an Instagram post that he would be sending Eich to the funeral of his father.
The Dallas Stars play the Florida Panthers on Saturday at American Airlines Center.
